Less than 30 minutes into my first ride with Bike New Haven, the Elm City’s new 24/7 bike share, or short-term bike-rental program, two people had already approached me to ask how I liked it. Even as a newbie to the program, I already had my answer: “I love it!”
May is New Haven Bike Month, so, naturally, I decided to go for a ride. But not just any ride. I wanted to check out the spiffy green bikes in the city’s new bike share program, officially dubbed Bike New Haven. I called my friend Carol Nardini, an avid cyclist and a member of the mayor’s Taskforce on Bike Education, and asked her to come along.
Spirits remained high despite rain and frigid temperatures on Thursday night as Elm City biking enthusiasts and environmentalists came together at Artspace to kick off the 10th Annual Rock-to Rock event.
On Tuesday, Mayor Toni Harp of New Haven announced the launch of the city's first bike rental program, Bike New Haven. In its first phase, the bike share program will feature 10 stations and 100 bikes throughout the city center.
